Web Design Breif
The Hindsight website was created to document, showcase, and promote the 2020 VisCom grad show. There was a considerable amount of freedom given when it came to the design. The only stipulation was that it would remain on-brand with the rest of the show.
The team decided on a motion graphic background to introduce the theme of the show. Since the animated background would be the main focus, I created some simple ghost style buttons for the navigation.
I decided to experiment with a side scroll layout, something I had yet to try. The rollovers help support this playful layout, having the students identity revealed when hovered over.
Web Wrap Up
While this website may not be perfect, it was an excellent learning experience for me. The project granted me the opportunity to experiment, manage a team, and learn responsive web design.
Motion graphics were used to enhance the visual identity, advertise, and provide content for the website and social media platforms. The motion graphics team consisted of myself and one other student.
This was a nod to past grad shows recreating their animations with our own logo. The end of a decade, giving tribute to the programs name change from Visual Communications to Art and Design.
We released a countdown every week building the shows anticipation, hoping to maintain viewers attention and keep them informed on the upcoming event.
I was asked to create a digital version of the physical invitation. The GIF unfolds identical to the physical invite to reveal Hindsight. It was to be sent out as e-invitations but the send off was delayed.
In all the motion graphics were successful, getting many positive reactions from viewers. It was a nice challenge recreating past shows animations. I just wish we had the chance to finish our planned designs.
